My Equipment

Here is a list of all the equipment, tools, etc. that I use or have used in my exploration of electric unicycles. Where available, I have provided a link for each item where it can be purchased or additional information found. The Amazon links are affiliate links which cost you no additional monies but does provide me a small finders fee.

My Wheels:
I own a Mten3, MCM5, two ACM2's, Tesla, Nikola, MSX, KS16X, KS18XL, Z10 and a Monster.

I buy most of my wheels from EWheels.  Why? Because of their selection, price, and perhaps most importantly, Jason's dedication to customer satisfaction and his ongoing support of the community. If the website doesn't list what you are looking for, give them a call. Use this link which lets them know that I've referred you: https://www.ewheels.com/MartyBacke

If you are in Europe I highly recommend https://www.speedyfeet.co.uk/  I have purchased wheels and parts from Ian and have always been happy with his customer service, prices, and joy of life :-)

  1. Hi mate
I have a IPS121 and am finding the foot steps small for my size 11 foot. I was wondering if there is a bigger step on a better wheel ( 45 - 50 klms speed and a 100klm+ distance. Love the YouTube blogs. Thanks mate from Australia

    1. The largest pedals made are currently on the KS18XL, which is also a great wheel, but is not capable of the distance/speed that you want (unless maybe you weigh 140-pounds.

Realistically the only wheel that can achieve those high speeds and cover that kind of range, is the Gotway Monster.

  3. Hi Marty - I am interested in getting A GOTWAY MSX 84v for commute in LA - do you know if they are legal on the streets ofLA? Where can I find the regulations so that If I got one and got stopped on the streets, I'd know my rights?

    1. Yes, they are legal in California. Many of us commute in and around Los Angeles every day. California law AB604, passed in 2016, codifies their legal status.

    1. You are worrying about a non-problem. We have been riding everywhere in California for years. The police never stop us. Hundreds of thousands of miles. Never stopped.

If you are looking for some legalese to support your use of the EUC, you won't find it because nowhere are EUCs mentioned by name. If that does not satisfy you then best not ride an EUC.

From my extensive experience, 95+ percent of police don't know what an EUC is and have never seen one. If you ask them either they will look at you strangely or will give you an answer you probably won't like. Personally, I would prefer that you not agitate any authorities for a formal answer because that may cause more problems then it solves.

I don't think I'll have anything more to say on this subject.

  6. Hi Marty
Do you know of a seat mod for the Nikola, and have you had the opportunity to ride the Nik seated?

Thanks for all your YT vids and links to the gear you use. Great stuff.👍

    1. Thanks :-)

I've seen various pictures of mounts, but they've all been DIY. The wheel is too small for me to ride seated, but there's a local rider that sits on his. He actually just put one of the side pads on top of the handle and sits on that. He says it's very comfortable.

  8. Of the EUC's you own or have ridden. Which would you consider the best bang for your buck?

  9. The Tesla V2 would be a great choice. I just upgraded my Tesla V1 to the new V2. It's still a very relevant wheel. I would highly recommend the Tesla over the 16S. The range is better and the Tesla is a much faster wheel. It's also been in production for a long time so it's a mature wheel.

Frankly, the only advantage that the older KS16S has over the Tesla is that it's slight cheaper.

  10. Hey Marty, I've watched many of your YouTube videos and recently subscribed to you channel.really curious how you feel about the customized Tesla V2 1480 WH. I've been holding off as I haven't heard enough about it. But because of my heavier weight @230 I thought having the bigger battery will be beneficial. Does it perform better than your previous Tesla or should I be thinking of something else like the Nicola or msx? Any thoughts?

  11. There is a federal law for mobility riders of all kinds whenever asked by authorities as to what your EUC or other electric device is, you can say it is your mobility scooter by federal ADA title 3 gives an individual the right without having to justify the use of a mobility device. most police and law enforcement are trained about this law. It is for handicapped persons but personally I would use it in a situation if questioned. Even thinking of getting a wheel mobility sticker. By the way I am 67 years old and ride a Gotway tesla and loving it.
